Welcome to The Harrington Post!
My name is Walter Harrington, and this is my substack where I write about my thoughts on science and faith, as well as the intersection of the two, and some personal hot takes on these subjects and beyond. I have been weighing the alternatives of splitting up my science blog and faith blog or keeping them together, and I have come to the conclusion that who I am consists of each of these topics, and they should all be in the same place. Substack allows me to organize the categories on different pages, so I thought that might be the best of both worlds.
As for me, I received a B.S. in Chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2014 and a Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences in 2019. I am currently a postdoctoral fellow studying the influenza virus at St. Jude Chlidren’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. I also am currently working on a Master of Public Health from the University of Memphis with a concentration in Epidemiology (anticipated graduation in May 2023).
I am a disciple of Jesus, and I love viruses. A fire for writing burns in my bones. So here we are. If you want to know more about me, see:
The Harrington Post is divided into the following sections:
On Infection, for articles about all things viruses, infection and vaccines. And more general science from time to time.
On the Waters, for articles on general theology topics that I find interesting.
Hot Takes, for articles about more contentious and controversial issues mostly relating to faith. Much of this section will be for subscribers only. I’ll explain myself before I post anything here.
Science and Faith, for articles about the intersection of science and faith.
Public Health, for articles pertaining to, well, public health.
Since it is The Harrington Post, you may well see articles from my wife here too at some point. And who knows, maybe we’ll have some guest writers as well. And/or a podcast. A guy can dream, right?
